NymVPN is the only service in this category that attacks a threat an ordinary VPN cannot. A normal VPN hides your traffic from your ISP, but a well-resourced adversary watching both ends of the connection can still correlate timing and volume to deanonymise you. Nym's mixnet mode routes traffic through several independent nodes and deliberately adds timing noise, breaking that correlation. It is closer in spirit to Tor than to a commercial VPN — with the option of a faster 2-hop dVPN mode when you want speed over maximal anonymity.
On identity, NymVPN is genuinely level 0: you authenticate with a token rather than an email or username, so there is no account handle in the first place.
